Techlessness... I'm not sure, but I think I'll just have technology exist in the world. Everybody just can do magic, too. And it's not very helpful, really, since most spells aren't long term, and it takes a lot of energy to be able to do even simple ones. Or at least, that's what the plotbunnies are telling me. Oh, but he DOES have to deal with not having tech at the school they all go to, because it's a sort of magical hot-spot, and technology and magic don't mix--they tend to mess with each other. But it's only in high-concentration areas of magic that it's a real problem, or if you're doing a really delicate spell. Tuck still smuggles it in, though--gets him into a lot of trouble, but he spends most of his time trying to figure out a way to make magic and technology more compatible.
The worldbuilding plotbunnies are having a reaaaally good time with this.
